Edward R. Gaines, III, JD, CCP is Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer for MMP. He is responsible for coding quality assurance (coding Q/A) and training, and oversees claims auditing for radiology, emergency medicine, anesthesiology, and pathology for MMP, bringing over 17 years of healthcare experience to the company. Based out of MMP’s Greensboro, N.C. offices, Mr. Gaines is actively involved in legal, coding and compliance issues regarding Medicare Part B billing with CMS, Medicaid intermediaries and commercial payors.  He obtained a Bachelor of Arts with Honors from Alma College and graduated from Wake Forest University School of Law, Juris Doctor. 

For the past five years, Mr. Gaines has served on the faculty for the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) national Reimbursement Conference and has presented frequently to state ACEP conferences. In 2006, he received the North Carolina College of Emergency Physicians’ (NCCEP) Outstanding Emergency Medicine Advocate Award.In September 2008, Mr. Gaines became an ex-officio member of the ACEP Reimbursement Committee and was awarded ACEP’s 2008 Outstanding Speaker of the Year Award. He is a co-founder, past chairman, and Board of Directors member of the Emergency Department Practice Management Association (EDPMA). Mr. Gaines chaired EDPMA’s Provider Enrollment Task Force for more than 10 years. In May 2008, EDPMA presented him with the EDPMA Founders Award. Mr. Gaines is also a member of the North Carolina State Bar, North Carolina Bar Association’s Health Law Section and the Bar of the United States Supreme Court.
